Rated Outstanding overall; inspectors found safe, highly caring and personalised dementia care, with Safe rated Good.

This was an unannounced inspection on 29 May 2018. The home was caring for 18 people, although it could accommodate up to 20. Inspectors spoke with all 18 people, staff, relatives and a visiting health professional. They also looked at care records, medicines, recruitment files, the building and quality checks.

Inspectors found that people were safe, well cared for and supported to live active lives. Staff knew people very well and offered activities based on their interests, including outings, community visits and personal projects. The building and gardens had been designed around the needs of people living with dementia.

The overall rating was Outstanding. Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led were rated Outstanding. Safe was rated Good. This was the home's first CQC inspection since it registered in 2017.

  • Personalised dementia care

    Staff understood how people experienced dementia and adapted care to their feelings, interests and communication. Care records included personal histories and achievable wishes.

    Inspectors saw warm and respectful relationships between people and staff. Staff spent time with people and helped them remain engaged and independent.

    People were supported to take part in activities that matched their hobbies and interests. This included outings, community events, gardening, cooking and personalised projects.

    The managers and provider were approachable and involved. The home used detailed quality checks and acted on feedback, accidents and suggestions.
