What inspectors found, August 2022

Rated Outstanding; inspectors found especially responsive, personalised care and strong leadership, with safe, effective and caring services rated Good.

Inspectors visited without notice on 28 and 29 June 2022. They spoke with six people living at the home, seven relatives, two health professionals and nine staff. They observed care and reviewed records, including four care plans.

People were supported by trained staff who were safely recruited. Inspectors found that medicines, staffing, infection control, risk assessments and the environment were managed safely. People received kind care, were treated with dignity and were involved in decisions.

The strongest findings were about personalised care, activities, support for people living with dementia and the way the home worked with community organisations. The home used technology and individual interests to improve people's wellbeing and independence.

The overall rating was Outstanding. Safe, Effective and Caring were rated Good. Responsive and Well-led improved from Good at the previous inspection under the former provider to Outstanding.

  • Personalised care

    Care was planned around people's lives, preferences, beliefs and daily choices. People, relatives, staff and health professionals contributed to keeping plans up to date.

    Staff understood how to support people living with dementia. Personalised music, lighting and other technology helped some people feel calmer and more relaxed.

    Inspectors saw positive interactions. Staff offered choices, protected privacy and encouraged people to do things for themselves where possible.

    Managers listened to people and staff and used feedback to develop the service. The home had active links with community groups and health professionals.
