What inspectors found, January 2019

The Phoenix Centre was rated Good overall, with safe, kind and person-centred care found across all five areas.

Inspectors visited on 8 January 2019. This was a comprehensive, announced inspection covering the care home, home care, supported living and Shared Lives services. They spoke with people using the services, staff and carers, observed care, and checked care records, medicines, recruitment, staffing and the environment.

People told inspectors they felt safe and well cared for. Staff understood safeguarding, risks were assessed, medicines were managed safely, and staffing levels were sufficient. The building was clean, hygienic and maintained.

Care was planned with people and kept under review. Inspectors found staff were trained, respectful and kind. People had choices about food and daily routines, could access healthcare, and had their communication needs considered.

The service was rated Good in Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led. It was also rated Good at the previous inspection in May 2016, and inspectors found no serious risks or concerns that changed the rating.
