The latest report, explained

What inspectors found, February 2019

The Padova was rated Good; inspectors found safe, kind and personalised care, with a small gap in best-interest records.

This was an unannounced comprehensive inspection on 15 January 2019. One inspector spoke with people living there, staff, the registered manager, relatives and a social care professional. They also checked care plans, staff files, medicines records, incident records, complaints and quality checks.

The home supported nine adults with learning disabilities. Inspectors found people were safe, medicines were managed properly and there were enough staff. Staff had suitable training and people were supported with food, drink, healthcare, activities and making their own choices.

People described staff as kind and approachable. Inspectors saw a calm, friendly atmosphere and found care plans that recorded people's needs, preferences and communication methods. There was an easy-read complaints procedure, but no complaints had been received in the previous year.

The home was rated Good in all five areas: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led. It was also rated Good at the previous inspection, and inspectors found no serious risks or concerns that would change the overall rating.

What inspectors praised
  • Safe care

Risk assessments gave staff clear guidance while still supporting people's independence. Medicines, staffing and incident reporting were also checked and found to be safe.

“Care plans contained risk assessments for keeping people safe whilst also maximising their independence” from the report
  • Kind relationships

People appeared comfortable with staff, who knew their needs and preferences well. The atmosphere was described as calm, friendly and homely.

“People were relaxed around staff; they were laughing and chatting with them.” from the report
  • Personalised support

Care plans recorded individual choices about personal care, communication, activities and daily life. People were encouraged to take part in household tasks and community activities.

“Care plans were person centred and detailed people's choices and preferences for the support they wanted to staff to provide.” from the report
  • Strong leadership

The home had quality checks, staff support and links with local community organisations. Relatives and professionals spoke positively about how the home was managed.
