Rated Good: inspectors found the home performing well and meeting their expectations.

The latest report, explained

What inspectors found, June 2018

Rated Good; inspectors found safe, kind and personalised care across all five areas.

The inspection took place on 9 April 2018. One inspector and an expert by experience visited, observed care and staff interactions, looked around the home, and reviewed care, medicines, staff and quality records. They also spoke with people, relatives, staff and managers.

The home supported up to 30 older people, including people living with dementia. At the visit, 27 people were using the service. Inspectors found people were safe, treated with respect and supported by staff who knew their needs and preferences.

The home was rated Good in all five areas: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. This was the same overall rating as the previous inspection on 9 September 2015.

What inspectors praised
  • People felt safe

People told inspectors they felt safe and appeared relaxed around staff. Staff knew how to recognise and report abuse or neglect.

“I feel very safe, everyone looks out for you, keep you clean and well fed, there is not anywhere else I would feel safer.” from the report
  • Personalised care

Care plans included people's needs, preferences and lifestyles. People and relatives were involved in reviewing their care.

“Support plans were personalised and showed people's preferences had been taken into account.” from the report
  • Kind and respectful staff

Staff respected privacy and dignity, knocked before entering bedrooms and supported people without rushing them.

“We observed staff treating people with dignity and respect.” from the report
  • Good activities

People were supported to follow their interests, take part in group activities and access the local community.

“People were supported to access the local community and to fulfil activities of their choice.” from the report
  • Effective management checks

The management team carried out regular audits, gathered feedback and recorded actions to improve the service.

“There were effective systems in place for monitoring the service, which the registered manager and deputy manager fully implemented.” from the report
What inspectors were concerned about

Inspectors raised no specific concerns in this report.

Questions to ask them, based on this report
  1. 01How would you assess and update my relative's care plan if their needs or health change?
  2. 02How do you support people living with dementia, including if they become confused or distressed?
  3. 03How will you make sure my relative receives their medicines safely and at the right times?
  4. 04What activities and community visits would be available for my relative's interests and abilities?
  5. 05How would you involve our family in care reviews and respond if we raised a concern?

This was a planned inspection that assessed all five CQC questions and included observations, conversations and checks of care, medicines, staffing and quality records. This explanation was written from the published report of 23 June 2018 by an AI system and checked against the report text: every quoted line appears in the report.
