What inspectors found, January 2019

Rated Outstanding; inspectors found exceptionally kind, personalised and responsive care, with the other areas rated Good.

Inspectors carried out an unannounced comprehensive inspection over 15 and 21 November 2018. They spoke with people, visitors, staff and the registered manager. They observed care, reviewed three people's care records, medicines records, staff files, training records, rotas and quality checks.

People were supported by caring staff who knew their life histories, needs and preferences well. Inspectors saw staff protect people's dignity, respond calmly to changes in mood or health, and help people stay connected with family and the local community. Care plans were written with people and, where appropriate, their families.

The home was rated Good for Safe, Effective and Well-led. Inspectors found enough staff, safe medicines systems, suitable training, good support with food and health needs, and effective checks on the running of the home. Caring and Responsive were rated Outstanding.

The overall rating was Outstanding. This was an improvement from Good overall at the February 2016 inspection. Caring remained Outstanding, while Responsive improved to Outstanding.
