CQC report explained · a residential care home
What the CQC found at Riverside
Rated Good: inspectors found the home performing well and meeting their expectations.
What inspectors found, April 2019
Riverside was rated Good overall; inspectors found safe, kind and personalised care, with evacuation arrangements being reviewed for night-time support.
This was a planned inspection on 28 February and 4 March 2019. One inspector spoke with four people living in the home, two staff members, the manager and a visiting family member. They also observed care, checked two care records and reviewed medicines, staffing, training, safeguarding, accidents and quality checks.
All five areas were rated Good: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Inspectors found enough suitably trained staff, safe medicines arrangements, personalised care plans and support for people's health, choices and independence.
People were involved in decisions about their care, food, activities and daily lives. Staff were described as kind and respectful, and the manager had systems for listening to people, dealing with complaints and improving the service.
The home was also rated Good at its previous inspection in May 2016. The report says legal requirements were met. A practice evacuation showed that some people might need extra support at night, so the manager was reviewing their emergency plans.
Safe staffing
Inspectors found enough staff with the right skills and knowledge. One-to-one support hours were consistently covered by staff people knew well.

Night-time evacuation support
