What inspectors found, November 2018

Parkwood House was rated Outstanding overall; inspectors found exceptionally caring, effective and personalised support, with safety rated Good.

This was an unannounced inspection on 7 and 12 September 2018. Inspectors spoke with people living at the home, visitors, staff, the registered manager and the provider. They also observed care, checked records and medicines, and received feedback from health professionals.

Inspectors found that people were safe, treated with kindness and supported by staff who understood their individual needs. Care plans were detailed, staffing levels were sufficient, medicines were managed safely and risks were actively reviewed.

The home provided a wide range of activities, including music, outings, visits from animals and links with a local school. Inspectors also found strong leadership, detailed end of life care and good systems for listening to people and improving the service.

The overall rating improved from Good at the February 2016 inspection to Outstanding. Safe was rated Good. Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led were all rated Outstanding.

    Inspectors observed warm, respectful interactions. Staff supported people's dignity, independence and relationships with family and friends.
