What inspectors found, July 2018
Monkscroft Care Centre was rated Outstanding overall, with safe and effective care and especially strong caring and personalised support.
This was an unannounced, comprehensive inspection on 21 and 22 May 2018. Inspectors observed care, spoke with people, relatives, staff and health professionals, and reviewed care records, medicines, recruitment records and other documents.
The home was rated Good for Safe, Effective and Well-led. Inspectors found enough skilled staff, safe medicines systems, suitable training, good support for health needs, and regular checks on quality and safety.
The home was rated Outstanding for Caring and Responsive. Inspectors found very kind and respectful care, strong relationships, detailed personal knowledge of people, flexible support, meaningful activities and good involvement of families.
The previous inspection in December 2015 rated the home Good overall. At this inspection, the overall rating improved to Outstanding.
Safe staffing and risk support
Inspectors found enough staff with the right skills. Risk assessments helped people stay safe while keeping as much independence and freedom as possible.

Kind and respectful care
Staff were described as exceptionally caring and kind. Inspectors saw people treated with patience, dignity and compassion.

Staff took time to understand people's lives, preferences, faiths and communication needs. They used creative approaches to help people make choices and stay connected.

People had a wide range of activities and could take part in local community events. The home also supported cultural, religious and family connections.
