CQC report explained · a nursing home
What the CQC found at Lakeland View Care Centre
Rated Good: inspectors found the home performing well and meeting their expectations.
What inspectors found, June 2018
Rated Good; inspectors found safe, kind and personalised care across all five areas.
Inspectors visited on 1 and 5 March 2018. The first visit was unannounced. They spoke with people living in the home, relatives, staff, managers and health professionals. They observed care, checked medicines and records, and looked at staffing, training, the building and management systems.
The home was rated Good for Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led. Inspectors found enough staff, safe recruitment, suitable training, well-managed medicines and a clean, maintained environment. Care plans reflected people's complex needs and were regularly reviewed.
Inspectors saw kind and respectful care. People were supported to make choices, maintain relationships and take part in activities that suited their interests and moods. The home had a complaints process and systems for checking quality and learning from incidents.
The home was rated Good at the previous inspection in December 2015 and remained Good at this inspection. The report says it met all relevant fundamental standards.
Personalised care
Care plans covered people's physical, emotional, social and medical needs. Staff knew these plans and adapted support when people's needs changed.
“We found care planning enabled staff to work in a highly personalised and holistic approach.” from the report
Safe staffing and medicines
Inspectors found enough staff and saw that call bells were answered appropriately. Medicines were administered as prescribed and controlled drugs were correctly recorded.
“This indicated there were sufficient numbers of staff to support people to stay safe and meet their complex needs.” from the report
Kind and dignified care
Staff were observed speaking with people patiently and respectfully. They protected privacy and dignity and encouraged people to remain as independent as possible.
“We observed only positive interactions between staff and people who lived at Lakeland View Care Centre.” from the report
Activities and personal interests
Activities were flexible and based on people's interests and moods. People were supported with outings, music, dancing, therapy animal visits and other individual activities.
“We found people's lives were enriched by the individualised activities which were made available to them.” from the report
Visible management
Managers were described as approachable and visible in the home. Quality checks, staff meetings, residents' meetings and surveys were used to listen and improve.
“We observed the registered manager and provider were 'hands on' in their approach and extremely visible about the home.” from the report
Inspectors raised no specific concerns in this report.
- 01How would you assess and regularly update my relative's care plan after they move in?
- 02How many staff would be available for my relative's needs, and would one-to-one support be provided if required?
- 03How would you adapt activities if my relative's mood, interests or health changed?
- 04How would you involve our family in care reviews, best-interest decisions and any complaints?
- 05How would you support my relative if they needed end of life care?
