What inspectors found, October 2018

Hartleys Care was rated Good overall; inspectors found safe, kind and personalised respite care with effective management.

This was an announced inspection on 17 September 2018. One inspector spoke with people using the home, relatives, staff and healthcare professionals. They looked around the building and checked care files, staff records, medicines records and quality checks.

The home provides short-term respite support for up to five adults with learning disabilities. Three people were staying there during the inspection. Inspectors found suitable staffing, safe medicines systems, detailed care plans and staff who understood people's needs.

People were treated with kindness and respect. They were involved in decisions, supported to be independent and offered activities they enjoyed. The home was clean and well maintained, and people and relatives said managers were approachable.

The overall rating was Good, with Good ratings for Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led. This was the first inspection since the provider changed and the service registered with the new provider in February 2018.

    People said they felt safe, and staff understood how to manage individual risks. Accidents and incidents were investigated, with action taken to reduce the chance of them happening again.
