What inspectors found, July 2018
Fixby Lodge was rated Good in all areas; inspectors found safe, kind and person-centred care, with some fire safety improvements identified.
Inspectors visited the home on 25 and 26 April 2018. The first visit was unannounced. They looked at care plans, staff records, medicines, quality checks and the home itself. They spoke with staff and relatives, and used people's individual communication methods to obtain the views of two people.
The home was rated Good overall and Good for Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led. Inspectors found enough staff, safe medicines management, suitable training, good support with food and healthcare, and care plans that reflected people's needs and preferences.
Inspectors saw a warm and respectful atmosphere. People were supported to make choices, keep in touch with family and friends, and take part in activities. The home had systems for complaints, feedback and quality checks. A fire officer had identified some areas for improvement, and an action plan was in place.
Enough staff
Inspectors found staffing levels were sufficient for people's needs and for social activities inside and outside the home.
