What inspectors found, November 2019

Rated Good; inspectors found safe, kind and personalised care, but no registered manager was in post at the visit.

This was a planned inspection on 15 October 2019. One inspector spoke with two people, a relative and five staff members. They also observed care and checked care records, medicines records, recruitment records and quality checks.

Inspectors found people were safe and supported by enough staff. Medicines were given safely, risks were assessed, and staff knew how to respond to abuse or emergencies. People had access to healthcare, healthy food, activities and support to make choices and build independence.

The care was described as kind, respectful and tailored to each person. The home was rated Good in all five areas: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led. This was unchanged from the previous Good rating published in May 2017.

  • Safe medicines support

    Staff were trained and assessed as competent to give medicines. The provider also checked for possible errors and monitored medicines given when needed.

183 Ashby Road was rated Good; inspectors found safe, caring and personalised support, and the home remained Good since its previous inspection.

This was an unannounced comprehensive inspection on 7 April 2017. The inspector spoke with people living at the home, a relative, staff and the registered manager. They observed care and checked care plans, staff files and management records.

All five areas were rated Good: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Inspectors found enough staff, safe medicine systems, suitable recruitment checks and staff who understood people's needs, communication methods and choices.

People were involved in their care planning and supported to be independent, use health services, maintain relationships and take part in activities, education, volunteering and work. The home had complaint and quality-checking systems in place.
