CQC report explained · a residential care home
What the CQC found at 1 Fengates Road
Rated Good: inspectors found the home performing well and meeting their expectations.
What inspectors found, June 2022
1 Fengates Road was rated Good overall; inspectors found safe, caring and personalised support that promoted independence.
This was an unannounced inspection on 29 April and 4 May 2022. The inspection looked at all five CQC questions, infection control, care records, medicines, staffing and how the home was managed.
Six people lived in the home, which can support up to six people. Inspectors found people were safe, treated with kindness and involved in decisions about their care. Staff knew people well and supported them to develop skills, go out and take part in activities.
All five areas were rated Good. This means inspectors found consistent evidence that people's needs were being met and that the home was managed effectively. This was the first inspection since the service was registered under its current provider.
Promoting independence
People were supported to build skills, manage parts of their daily lives and go out without staff when this was safe. Risks were assessed so independence could be encouraged.
“People were encouraged to have control in their daily lives and staff ensured people were able to live as independently as possible.” from the report
Kind and respectful care
Inspectors saw friendly interactions and found that staff knew people well. People were involved in decisions and their privacy and dignity were respected.
“Staff treated people with kindness and respect. We observed friendly exchanges between staff and people.” from the report
Personalised support
Care plans included people's histories, preferences, communication needs and things they disliked. Staff adapted support when people became anxious or distressed.
“Care plans were person centred, and captured people's personal histories, specific wishes in relation to the care they received as well as the things that they did not like.” from the report
Community involvement
People were supported to follow interests, keep relationships and avoid social isolation. On the inspection day, everyone had been out in the community.
“Staff supported people to maintain relationships and avoid social isolation. On the day of our inspection, all people had been out into the community.” from the report
Good oversight
The provider used audits, care reviews, incident analysis and feedback to monitor the service. Staff and relatives said they felt able to raise questions or concerns.
“The provider had a robust auditing system to check all aspects of service delivery, ensuring the quality of care was a good standard, as well as checking documentation and staff training.” from the report
Inspectors raised no specific concerns in this report.
